Fr. Sando Tomašević ofm, a Franciscan Croat friar working in the Holy Land Custody, has been appointed as new director of the Boys Home in Bethlehem. This institution is housed in the grounds of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary Convent, close to the Milk Grotto. It is a residential house of welcome for young boys and adolescents from Bethlehem, who often come from difficult family situations. They receive their education in the Terra Sancta School of Bethlehem and then reside in the home under the expert guidance and care of a Franciscan friar, Franciscan Missionaries of Mary and an équipe of social workers and psychological and pastoral counsellors. The home is financed mostly by the Franciscan Foundation for the Holy Land in the USA. Fr. Sandro has studied theology in the Holy Land from 2010 to 2013. After being ordained priest he returned to his country, where he was vice parish priest of a large Franciscan parish at Siget-Tronsko in Zagreb. In 2017 he returned to the Holy Land, where he worked as vice parish priest of Bethlehem and Saint Saviour in Jerusalem. He is now back in Bethlehem in the same parish, but also with this delicate responsibility of providing care and shelter for children and adolescents, so that they may be formed in the true human and Christian spirit of a loving family.
